The OB1i is a floorstanding three-way speaker. A 27mm SONOLEX soft-dome tweeter, a 75mm soft-dome mid-range in its own isolated enclosure and a 170mm doped bass driver on a cast alloy chassis share the load. The bass driver is loaded by an advanced transmission line (ATL) with an effective length of 3.3m, which is how the cabinet reaches down to 28Hz.
A hand-built crossover with 24dB per octave slopes splits the signal at 380Hz and 3.8kHz. The steep slopes are intended to support high power handling and an even in-room response. The cabinet is made from 18mm and 25mm high-density Medite fibreboard to limit panel flex and colouration.
The speaker has 87dB sensitivity and a 6 ohm impedance, and is recommended for amplifiers of 70-300W. Connection is through three pairs of 4mm sockets, so it can be wired in tri-wire or tri-amp configurations. Registering a new unit within 10 days of purchase gives a 20 year warranty, subject to terms.
