AFX Station is a special edition of the Bass Station II, a two-oscillator analogue monosynth with a multimode filter, amp and filter modulation, a step sequencer and an arpeggiator. It keeps all the standard Bass Station II features and ships with firmware v4.14 installed.
Its headline addition is AFX Mode, devised by Aphex Twin, in which each key plays a different patch. This lets the instrument work as an analogue drum module, a sound design tool or a bass and lead synth, and it can be played, sequenced or arpeggiated. It includes 128 new patches and seven overlay banks from Noyze Lab, Perplex On, Richard Devine, r beny and Lightbath. The v4.14 firmware adds fixed-duration envelopes with retrigger counts, extended sub oscillator controls, oscillator glide diverge, microtuning editing and a paraphonic mode.
The overlays are managed in the Overlay editor in Novation Components. The unit has purple reveals, an 'A' insignia and interface labels for the AFX Mode functions, and it comes in a limited-edition giftbox designed by Weirdcore. Drivers, user guides and other downloads are available from the maker.
