Sputnik is a large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone built around a 1" evaporated-gold diaphragm, 3 microns thick. The signal path uses a hand-selected, military-grade 6205M pentode wired as a triode, mounted inverted and without a socket. The body and the tuned backplate are solid brass, and a dual-layer steel grille protects the capsule.
The polar pattern is switchable between cardioid, figure-eight and omni. A 10 dB pad raises the maximum SPL handling from 132 dB to 142 dB for 0.5% THD, and an 80 Hz high-pass filter (12 dB/octave) can be engaged to remove low-frequency rumble. Frequency response is 20 Hz to 20 kHz within ±1 dB, with a sensitivity of 30 mV/Pa and an equivalent noise level of 18 dB (A-weighted).
The microphone connects to its dedicated power supply through a supplied 7-pin cable, and the output is transformer isolated with a 200 Ω impedance. The package also includes a shock mount, a soft bag and a custom flight case.
