RD-9

The RD-9 is a drum machine modelled on the TR-909 approach to drum sounds. It has 11 drum voices, each with its own tuning, level, attack and decay controls. A Wave Designer adds attack and sustain shaping to individual voices, and a dual-mode filter switches between low-pass and high-pass with cutoff and resonance controls. Filter sweeps can be recorded into the sequencer and edited in the step editor.

The 64-step sequencer stores up to 64 patterns and 16 songs, with continuously variable swing. Live-oriented functions include step repeat, note repeat, real-time triggering, live step overdubbing, autofill, and cueing another song from memory without stopping playback. The encoder sets chain behaviour per parameter, such as tempo, swing, flam, probability, mutes/solos, FX bus assignments and filter modes, so they can stay global or change with the song or pattern.

For connections, the unit offers a headphone output, a mono output, 11 independent analog outputs, MIDI In, Out and Thru over both 5-pin DIN and USB, and 3 trigger outputs for external synths and sequencers. It sends and receives clock for syncing with other gear, and USB allows DAW control and triggering of individual sounds.
