The TR-6S is a battery-powered rhythm machine with six instrument tracks and a TR-REC style step sequencer. Each track can take sounds from several sources: circuit-modelled tones of classic Roland drum machines, 66 FM tones, more than 300 preset samples, and user samples loaded from an SD card. This allows hybrid kits that mix vintage and modern sounds.
The sequencer offers 16 steps per variation, eight variations (A–H) per pattern and two fill-in patterns, with sub-steps, flam, step-loop and motion recording. Per-instrument effects include filters, EQ-style boosts, transient shaping, compressor, drive, crusher, ring mod and frequency shifter, plus reverb and delay sends and a master effects section with side-chain and scatter functions. Memory holds 128 patterns and 128 user drum kits.
For connection, it has stereo 1/4-inch outputs, a headphone jack, MIDI in and out, and a USB-B port that carries both audio and MIDI, so it can also serve as a USB audio/MIDI interface. It runs on four AA batteries or on USB bus power.
