The HyperDrive is a compact inline preamplifier that sits between a microphone and the preamp or interface it feeds. It adds clean gain to dynamic and passive ribbon microphones using a Class A discrete circuit, so lower-output mics can reach a useful level without the input preamp being turned up far. The gain switch offers two settings: 1X (23 dB) and 2X (46 dB).
The unit has a metal housing built to withstand live use and is described as having a very low noise floor. Because the signal is boosted at the microphone, longer cable runs are more practical on stage, with less chance of interference, buzz, hum and feedback, and less signal degradation along the cable.
It can be attached either directly to the microphone or at the preamp end. It needs phantom power to operate, so it is not suitable for microphones that themselves require phantom power, such as condenser mics or some active ribbon mics. A quickstart guide and manuals in several languages are available from the maker.
